"DRAWING THE LINE" Juried Exhibition
Octavia Art Gallery is pleased to announce the first edition of Drawing the Line, a juried exhibition. Drawing has been conventionally associated with pen, pencil and paper. However, artists have surpassed this definition of the medium through their exploration of innovative materials, conceptually redefining the use of line. Drawing now encompasses film, computer screens, earth, walls, and materials ranging from sticks to pixels. The nature of drawing is not limited by media, nor is it characterized by a format. The underlying concept of this exhibition is to celebrate lines as a distinct medium, which can transcend the limitations of two-dimensional forms.
Artists were invited to submit work to guest juror Rebecca Rebouché. Rebouché is a local painter and mixed media artist who has shown her work extensively throughout the United States as well as the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. In addition to highlighting lines as a distinct medium, Rebouché wanted to think conceptually about the idea of line, such as a line of sight, a line of memory, or lineage. This collaboration between Octavia Art Gallery and Rebecca Rebouché has fostered an impressive exhibition with works ranging from ink on paper to photography and sculpture.
